WHAT IS THE PREDICTIVE INDEX ASSESSMENT?
The Predictive Index can be implemented during the hiring process, or as an employee coaching and staff development tool. This PI exam takes up to 10-15 minutes to complete and aims at evaluating test-takers’ personality and behavioral traits.
What does the PI Behavioral Assessment Measure?
From the view of prospective employers, the goal of administering a PI Behavioral Assessment is to predict test-takers’ workplace performance and behavioral tendencies. Employers can assess which one of the Predictive Index personality types candidates fit into, by measuring primary characteristics of their personality.
The four PI primary factors
Dominance: To what extent do you try to control your environment?
Extroversion: To what extent do you seek social interaction with others?
Patience: To what extent do you look for consistency and stability in your environment?
Formality: To what extent do you try to conform to formal rules and structure?
THE ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE AND SCORING
The PI Behavioral Assessment is untimed, the assessment generally takes between 5-10 minutes to complete. There are two pages on the assessment, each containing 86 adjectives. One of the pages the candidates checks and marks the qualities that are in accordance with how they think others perceive them and expect them to act. On the second page the candidates are asked to mark the qualities that they believe reflects their behavior.
Each adjective on the Predictive Index personality assessment is related to one or more of the four PI primary factors. There are 22 dominance, 21 extroversion, 22 patience, and 21 formality adjectives.
When the Predictive Index is being checked, each adjective gives a 'point' for its related factor, and each factor’s score is computed by counting the adjectives marked under it.
THE PREDICTIVE INDEX RESULTS
The results of the Predictive Index come in the form of a personality profile, which is represented on a graph. After answering the PI exam questions, test-takers’ results are scored and put into one of three personality profiles, based on their selection of adjectives and patterns of workplace behavior.
Self – This profile refers to who you believe you are, reflecting your natural drives and needs, as well as describing how you naturally react in certain situations.
Self-Concept – This profile refers to how you think you should behave in work situations and reflects how well you adapt to your environment and to others’ expectations of you in the workplace.
Synthesis – This profile is a mathematical sum of the other two profiles. It evaluates your behavioral tendencies at work, as well as others’ perception of you.
When comparing your results from the “self” and “self-concept” profiles, you will be assessed based on how you feel you should behave in the work environment and how different those behaviors are from your true self.
Consistency across the two profiles is more desirable since it portrays your ability to remain true to yourself in the work environment. Observing your behavioral traits allows companies to hire the best-suited candidates.
